A stripe closed account belongs on the dedicated merchant application you fill the same morning, not in a drawer while you wait on Stripe. Keep the email. Write the same owners, the same URL, and the same product the underwriter will see. An acquiring bank reads that file. We place it. We do not approve it.
The Stripe appeal, if the notice still offers one, is a separate track. Our notes on how to recover a Stripe account cover that path. This page is the packet on the table.
The Stripe closed account email is part of the next file
The email is evidence. An underwriter who boards a supplement seller or a dropship store looks for a prior termination before they look at your logo. Stripe’s name on a closure notice is one of the first things they expect.
Save a PDF. Keep Stripe’s wording. A line that says the platform can no longer support the business is a different fact from a note about disputes, a restricted product, or documents that never came back. Put Stripe’s sentence on the application, then add yours: what you sell, how you fulfill, and what you actually changed after the email.
Do not shrink the story. A nutraceutical brand that rebills monthly is still a subscription. A store that ships from a supplier’s warehouse still dropships. If the checkout URL on the Stripe account is the store you will process next, that URL goes on the form. A rewritten story is how a file dies on the second read.
Funds still sitting in Stripe are a second problem with their own clock. The processor holds a balance because it, not you, eats a chargeback if the business is gone. That buffer is not a timeline we can publish. Handle the shutdown itself on our page for when Stripe closed my account, and the remaining dashboard balance in the post on a closed Stripe account with money in it. Do not wait on a payout to start the dedicated file. Checkout is already dark.
Same morning, export what the dashboard will still give you: monthly statements, dispute PDFs, the refund policy, fulfillment records, supplier invoices. Access tightens after a closure. The underwriter will ask for those pages anyway.
Then do the operational work in what to do when your processor drops you. Pull the Stripe button off the live cart. Tell customers how they can pay. Stop sending ads to a checkout that fails.
What an underwriter will ask for
A dedicated account is underwritten by an acquiring bank, not by an aggregator queue. The bank is deciding whether it can live with disputes on this product if you disappear. Your packet has to answer that job.
Expect the questions in this order. Who owns the company. What the cardholder sees on the site. How long after the charge the bottle or the parcel actually ships. What already went wrong at Stripe.
Documents that move a file are specific:
- Every owner who has to be disclosed sends a government ID and a Social Security number, plus the EIN letter that matches the legal name on the application.
- Stripe history comes by month, with sales, refunds, and disputes in the same export, not a rounded dashboard screenshot.
- The live URL, the posted refund policy, and a fulfillment note match the delivery promise on the product page.
- The closure email sits in the packet, with Stripe’s reason in Stripe’s language and a short account in yours.
If Mastercard’s MATCH database is in play, say so. MATCH is Mastercard’s database of merchants terminated for cause by an acquirer. Stripe publishes how it uses that file in its MATCH documentation. A listing stays for five years from the date the acquirer adds it. Mastercard then purges the record. Only the acquirer that placed the listing can remove it, and only where it was added in error or where reason code 12 for PCI DSS non-compliance applies and the underlying issue is fixed. That rule lives in Mastercard’s Security Rules and Procedures. We cannot remove a listing.
Reason codes belong on the application only when they are on the letter. Excessive chargebacks is Mastercard reason code 4: chargebacks in a single calendar month over 1% of that month’s Mastercard sales, and those chargebacks totaling USD 5,000 or more, both in the same month. Excessive fraud is reason code 5: an 8% fraud-to-sales dollar ratio in a calendar month, and 10 or more fraudulent transactions totaling USD 5,000 or more that same month. If Stripe did not name a MATCH code, do not invent one.
We read the statement with you and tell you what the underwriter will see. We place the file. The bank decides. The form that carries all of this is the merchant account application. Fill it as the business that exists.
Aggregators versus a dedicated account after Stripe
Stripe ran you inside a pooled account. That is how an aggregator works. Risk engines watch the pool. A new supplement SKU, a subscription rebill, a spike week, or a dispute cluster can cut the rails with no underwriter on the phone. The longer version of that pattern is in why Stripe and Square close accounts.
A dedicated merchant account is a file with your legal name on it at an acquiring bank. The category is disclosed up front. Monitoring still exists. The difference is the process. A human who already accepted the vertical is the one who calls.
| Question | Another aggregator | Dedicated merchant account |
|---|---|---|
| Who underwrites you | The platform’s risk engine, often after you are already live | An acquiring bank, on a file that names the category |
| How a shutdown happens | A rule can stop cards with no call | The bank already accepted the vertical and talks to the file |
| What the Stripe email does | Reads as a problem in the pool | Reads as prior history the underwriter expects |
| What the file still needs | Honest owners, URL, and product | Honest owners, URL, product, and the termination |
A second aggregator signup is the same structure that just closed you. Another pooled platform will see the Stripe shutdown the same way Stripe did: as risk it does not want in the pool. The dedicated path is slower to open because a person reads the category. That read is the point. The side-by-side lives on payment aggregator vs merchant account.
None of this is a yes. A dedicated file can still come back declined. If we cannot place the file with any acquirer we know of, we tell you that.
What not to change on the application
Put the business that exists on the form. The legal name, the EIN, the beneficial owners, and the home addresses stay as they are. The product stays as it is. The URL customers will use stays as it is. The monthly volume is the volume you actually ran.
A new LLC with the same owners and the same store is still the same merchant. A spouse listed as owner of record still has to pass identity checks, and the person who ran Stripe still has to be disclosed. A fresh domain that sells the same bottle is still the same offer. A second Stripe login on a new email is still the same people, the same bank, and the same site. Aggregators match those. Dedicated underwriters match them on purpose.
What you may update, when it is already true: a fulfillment window you have in writing with a supplier, a refund policy you have already posted, a billing descriptor that matches the site name, a customer-service line a cardholder can actually reach. Those are operating facts. They are not a costume.
If you are on the MATCH list, disclose it. A hidden listing is how a second acquirer terminates you and the file gets worse. If you do not know whether Stripe added a row, write that you were terminated by Stripe and you do not know. The bank will check.
For a bottle brand, the honest file names the ingredients page, the rebill, and the supplier. For a dropship store, it names the supplier, the ship-from location, and the delivery promise on the product page. Those verticals are how we already talk about nutraceutical merchant accounts and dropshipping payment processing. The underwriter is reading the same pages the cardholder reads.
A merchant sees the full schedule, including any reserve, before signing. We do not invent a rate or a boarding clock on this page. We place the file so it gets a fair reading.
Frequently asked questions
Can I apply for a dedicated account while Stripe still has a balance?
Yes. The application is about taking new cards. The held Stripe balance is a separate recovery. Do not stall the file waiting on a payout you cannot date.
Does a Stripe closed account mean I am on MATCH?
No. MATCH is only for a termination for cause that an acquirer actually added. Many Stripe closures never become a listing. If Stripe named a MATCH reason, put that reason on the application.
Should I start a new company or a new Stripe login?
Write the existing business. A new entity with the same owners, the same site, and the same product is still the same merchant. A second aggregator login repeats the structure that just closed.
Will the dedicated account be approved, and how soon?
We do not know. The acquiring bank underwrites. We place the file so it gets a fair reading. If we cannot place it, we say so.
Do I need to recover Stripe before I apply?
Only if you still want Stripe. Run the appeal if the email gives you a form. Build the dedicated file the same morning.
